President Bush has nominated Lt. General Ann Dunwoody to be the first female 4-star general in the United States Army.  She has been recommended to head the Army Materiel Command which is responsible for equipping, arming and outfitting soldiers throughout the entire Army.  Her nomination must first be approved by the Senate.

 

 

General Dunwoody, who is from New York, has served in the Army for 33 years and is one of only two (2) female 3-star generals.  She is currently deputy commander of the Materiel Command  and has previously been Army deputy chief of staff for logistics as well as commander of Army Combined Arms Support Command.  She graduated from State University of New York in 1975 before joining the Army.
